Most Creative Businesses in West Hollywood

Creative City Awards: Honoring Innovation in Business | West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce | West Hollywood, CA.

Artwork by Ruben Esparza of Red Studios

Tonight, the Chamber will honor some of the most creative business in West Hollywood.  Some of our faves have been nominated.  Last year, Vanity Girl was nominated for Creative Communications, for the way that I’ve been able to put my brand on the map — with a little bit of Online Fame plus a little bit of Offline elbow grease.  I lost out to a little known company called HBO (hello!), but honestly!  That was truly a case of, “I’m just happy to be nominated!”

At any rate, this year I found myself behind the camera, producing some of the pre-event pieces and even working on capturing the night.  More of that to come – but in the meantime make sure to click on the link above to see if one of your favorite WeHo Businesses have been nominated!

What to look for in a makeup brush

Join me as I catch up with my friend, Emmy-ward winning MUA KJ Bennett at the Royal Brush booth at the first annual PHAMExpo.  His brushes were born out of his “makeup artist angst” because he simply couldn’t find brushes that kept up with him!

I first met Kevin a few years ago when I was in New York and hung out with YouTube makeup guru @enkore makeup for the first time.  The three of us ended up in Chelsea over martinis and the rest they say … is history!

What lighting do makeup artists use?

Here’s another spotlight on a Pro Vanity Girl. Meet celebrity MUA Priscilla Ono, whom I met through Uber Blogger Kandee Johnson.  Priscilla has beat the faces of glamour girls like Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Paris Hilton, Amber Rose and Iggy Azalea!  Now you KNOW, those are some serious skills if they call on her to beat their face  And I’ve seen more than one instance where Ms. Amber Rose has been named “Best Makeup” on a Red Carpet, just sayin’ …

Anyway, Ms. Priscilla has a Black Vanity Desk of her very own in her LA Makeup Loft.  Here’s her video where she takes you through some of her daily things!

What she loves about her Broadway Desk .. or as she says in the video, “obsessed” 🙂

  • The Lifetime Warranty.  Yep, Vanity Girl is manufactured right here in LA and carries a lifestime warranty.
  • The adjustable light switch.  Every MUA (and home makeup junkie) should be able to control their lighting!
  • The holsters that hold her Croc Blowdryer and Hot Tools hair items.
  • The outlets that make everything from styling to airbrush makeup to watching YouTube tutorials a breeze when doing your makeup.
  • And of course, the nice warm lighting which she says is “amazing” for makeup application.

Make sure to watch the video to check out her video and her daily makeup must-have’s!

Vanity Girl Hollywood wins Economic Development Award 2013

Vanity Girl was really proud to be honored by the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce as an Economic Development leader.

ABOUT THE EVENT:
The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored five at the annual State of The City (#SOTC2013) on June 26, 2013.

The best Hollywood makeup mirror

I loved this video from @shophaulic777.  She is so honest … she’s had her Black Starlet for over a month but hasn’t been able to get to it.  I get like that too – especially when it comes to things I think might be difficult to put together.

But she liked that it was so “Super Simple to put together” – like only 7 screws and it comes with everything you need right in the box.

Medical Tourism in Thailand

Throwback Thursday:  Travel Edition

Here is a video I hosted and helped produce with my JetsetExtra family while we were in Thailand last year.  We met Kiana over lunch on our second day, and I was so surprised by the amount of medical tourists that choose Thailand so we were able to get in a piece about it!

Your Worldwide Vanity Hunter,

Maxine @VanityGirl

P.S.  What about you?  Would you consider going to another country to get medical work done?  Why or why not?

Vanity Girl Hollywood blinging out the Pasadena PHAME Expo

This hot new event seems to be taking the beauty industry by storm and two of our Industry Pro Vanity Girls will be there, blinging out their event booths with their Vanity Girl vanities.

Crystal of Paw Pallette (the beauty & brains behind that brand) will be at booth 410, and if you haven’t seen her paw pallettes, they are the CUTEST things ever.

And makeup instructor and MUA Janet of Allure Makeup Academy (who by the way, held one of the first Vanity Mixers)  is launching a new makeup line and she will be in Booth #609.

If you drop by and visit – make sure to take a pic with the vanity and Instagram, Tweet or FB me!  I LOVE getting those pics.

Crystal told me that LimeCrime, PurseBuzz and Enkore Makeup will also be there … so I’m sure I will make it over there as well.

What about you?   Will you be at the PHAME Expo?  Do you still need to Bling out your Booth with one our Vanities?  Get some …

Closet/Vanity Tour on YouTube from Irene

Closet/Vanity Tour!! – YouTube.

I love this video from Irene repping the glam in Chicago. She is a newlywed, and shares openly and honestly about how important it is to carve out a space of your own when moving in with someone.

I think it’s amazing how she made such great use of relatively small closet space to create a totally efficient Vanity Space.  But I have to say, her creative way to make a blowdryer holster (kind of like the ones we feature on our Broadway Desk) is simply genius.

Brains + Beauty = Vanity Girls 🙂

How far will you go to avoid the sun?

Face-kini, Chinese Face Masks To Beach To Avoid Sun Exposure – Anti-Aging – Face – DailyBeauty – The Beauty Authority – NewBeauty.

I have a pesky sunspot that reminds me I have spent way too many days laying out the beach with inadequate sunblock (baby oil anyone?)  Which is why I used IS SkinCare’s 50 block while I was in the Dominican Republic (which PS we are giving away in this contest:

Anyway, New Beauty posted this article about the Face-kini, a FULL physical block for your face.  When I spent time in Japan, Philippines and Thailand, I did notice that there were shelves and shelves of lightening creams whereas here in Hollywood, the shelves are full of self-tanners, body bronzers and my obsession, leg makeup in a can.

I really do love how each country and even cities, define beauty differently which once again proves, beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and COLOR, so here’s to rocking our unique beauty with pride!

Cheers to all you Real Vanity Girls who do just that, all day … everyday.

Flashback Friday: How to Become a YouTube Makeup Guru

Real Vanity Girl: You Tube Guru Stephanie L. | My Vanity World.

A lot of people ask me how you become a Beauty Blogger or YouTube Guru and I found this interview I did with one of my faves – SMLx0 about a year ago, and I thought I’d share it.

I have loved watching her journey and we’re honored to be a part of her in-home studio.

More Later!
