Screen Shot 2013-05-20 at 5.35.02 PM

Festival de Cannes – From 15th to 26th May 2013.

I admit it.  I am a Francophile.  So when I met this ADORABLE French Expat name Julie while guest lecturing at UCLA, and she expressed an interest in guest blogging for us… hello, how could I say Non?

Here’s her inside scoop on all things Cannes!  I am posting a little late … so please bear with me.  She did get it to me on time, but I am late.

Enjoy and please say  Bon Jour to Julie!

Bisous, Maxine

Get ready for Fashion Week in Cannes !

From 15th to 26th May 2013

Film aficionados, Fashion lovers, the 2013 Cannes Film Festival is already in full swing! There is already a great vibe around the whole of the French Riviera. This year will be no different! Cannes will welcome some of the world’s most successful actors and actresses, the most gorgeous designer’s dresses on the red carpet and the craziest parties to open the summer; it’s going to be AMAZING!

To tell you a little about myself, I’m Julie from France! I worked for BMW-MINI and Range Rover as a Marketing Manager for two years in Nice (South of France) .I’ve been in LA for more than a year now, I love that city and enjoy every single day!

I’m currently studying for the General Business Studies Certificate at UCLA. One of the courses I’m taking is Social Media Marketing, and we had a really special guest few weeks ago, the belle and brilliant Maxine Tatlonghari!

How crazy it is, I’m now sharing girly-fashion-news on her blog! I can’t believe it.

But let me go back to the festival, as a French girl expat in LA , I’m not going to be there this year, but here are some tips (Blogs, Gossip, Breaking News, Back stages…) to follow it and don’t miss anything !

A vos agendas: screenings guide

A “Mise en bouche”

The Cannes Film Festival has chosen to display its 66th edition a couple who perfectly embodies the spirit of the movie: Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman pictured on the set of the well named A New Kind of Love, Melville Shavelson (1963).

Steven Spielberg will be this year the head of the jury for the main competition.

Audrey Tautou (A French actress, she played in Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain) is going to host the opening ceremony.

This is looking to be a pretty big festival this year with Australian director Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby”opening the festival (starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan and the musical score by Jay-Z that also features a song by Beyonce, all of whom are expected to walk the famous red carpeted stairs).

Breaking news

A documentary retracing Amy Winehouse’s life will be presented at the Cannes Festival 2013. According to Télé Loisirs (French Magazine), British director Asif Kapadia will present a documentary about the life of singer trash Film Market from 15 to 24 May at Cannes. Produced by James Gay-Rees, this documentary will be shown on La Croisette to the delight of fans of the singer disappeared on 23 July 2011 at the age of 27. In this documentary, Asif Kapadia talks about the darker side of the story of Amy Winehouse. After watching the film, the Daily Mirror reports that the singer’s parents, Mitch and Janice, gave permission to the director, as the documentary about their daughter is devoid of “sensationalism”.

Ready for parties!

It has been said that 80 percent of the world’s wealth is in Cannes during the 11 days of the festival. Judging by the number of yachts in the Cannes harbor and marina, and the overwhelming number of Rolls’, Bentley’s, Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and any other fine automobile you can name, I would venture to say it’s not far from the truth.  It’s fairly easy to get rundown by a Rolls’ or Bentley. Trying to board one of the yachts is not so easy and getting invited to a party aboard one of them is even harder.

Cannes festival is famous for many things, but the parties should be at the top of your list. Two types of parties are held during the festival – post screening parties and early cocktail receptions in the evening. The latter is held during sunset, and the venue is usually at a beachfront pavilion. The post-screening parties are held in many places, so make sure you do your research.

Take note that there are no official parties for the attendees of the festival. Most of the parties are, therefore, private affairs with specific guest lists. If you want to be invited, then the first thing to go is to keep your ears open for all news and try to secure an invite before the festival begins. Make sure you visit Vesper White Parties for your chance to get into best parties in Cannes this year.

FlyRight:: Jet Lag Formula

When I came home from Thailand, I had such a severe case of Jet Lag, and I didn’t even TRY and address it. I defiantly told my friend Mary Anne that I was going to just sleep when I was tired, and wake up when I was ready.

Well – I have to say it wasn’t the smartest plan because it took me a good two weeks to get my body back on track. Something like this may have just done the trick!

What about you, have you tried this? What are your Jet Lag tips?
