Stay : The Crane Residential Resort in Barbados

Flashback! I stayed at this gorgeous property at the invitation of my friend Ava whom I met in Paris at the Alliance Francais

What I loved …

  • Our large room had a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms and baths and balcony with a jacuzzi on it.
  • Location, location, location.  This traditional, pool-heavy property overlooks the award winning Crane Beach – known for its pink sand.
  • Pools, pools, pools.  I absolutely LOVE when I can lay by a pool, gazing at gorgeous blue skies while overlooking a blue ocean.  It’s my favorite thing.   There were lagoon style pools to classic infinity pools.  A top a sort of private bar area, there was one that even reminded me of something from Greece.
  • Service.  The ratio of staff to guests ensures that you never want for anything.

Ambiance …

This hotel has been around a long time … since 1887 and it has a traditional feel.   It has been restored and the rooms are larger.  I didn’t have a chance to take a peek at the villas – but the pools are literally EVERYWHERE.  Even some of the rooms of themselves.  It could be appropriate for families, romance or for friends that just want a quiet, elegant type of vacay.

Eat …

There are four options on the proeprty.

We had a lovely dinner at Zen which overlooks the ocean.  Here’s a pic of me at that dinner (above)

Must do:

One day, a group of us rented a catamaran and cruised around the island.  We snorkled with sea turtles and other serious wildlife and when we whipped around to the other side of the island, some locals pulled up alongside our boat with jetskis for rent (like $20 for an hour).

It brought out my inner Laura Croft when I jumped off the side of the boat, with my $20 tucked into my bathing suit top and handed it to the guy.  He invited me to get on the back at which point I had to let him know that I wanted to ride that jetski solo next to the catamaran full of my friends in that hot Baijan sun and gorgeous Caribbean Ocean …

Here’s a fun little article about Simon Cowell and Carmen Elektra (did anyone see that coming?) jetskiing in Barbados …
