Look for our Strides table this Thursday at the Sunset Strip Music Festival, but in the meantime, here’s a press release that went out regarding the support the City has shown to our launch of the West Hollywood Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk!
“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Community Walk set for Saturday, August 25, 2012
WEST HOLLYWOOD – The “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” community walk unites communities to celebrate people who have battled breast cancer, raise awareness about the steps one can take to help prevent the disease, and raise money to find cures and support programs and services for those facing the disease. The West Hollywood Making Strides Against Breast Cancer community walk will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. (registration) and 10:30 a.m. (start) at Interior Illusions, 7335 Santa Monica Boulevard. There is no registration fee or minimum fundraising requirement, and people of all ages are welcome to participate and raise funds.
“We are honored to co-sponsor the American Cancer Society’s ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ community walk, taking place for the first time in West Hollywood,” said West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore Abbe Land. “With local residents and business owners helping to lead the volunteer planning committee, we are looking forward to a truly great event to raise funds for breast cancer support services and programs, as well as to honor and support breast cancer survivors,” continued Mayor Pro Tempore Land.
(Note: Local businesses include Interior Illusions, Vanity Girl Hollywood, Aveda, Live Love Tarot, TRAIN West Hollywood, Hotel Intercontinental Century City, Center for Radiation Beverly Hills, Cedars Sinai, NCJW and more!)
“We need to do everything we can to support those who are battling breast cancer and we need to support the doctors, scientists and organizations working to improve treatment and find a cure,” said West Hollywood Councilmember John Heilman. “I’m glad we are co-sponsoring this great event,” continued Councilmember Heilman.
Since 1993, nearly 7 million walkers across the country have raised more than $400 million through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer community walks, with more than 115,000 annual California participants.
